Serum Pregnancy-Specific ¥â1-Glycoprotein(SP©û) Level of Normal and Icteric Neonates

Abstract
Once SP1 were through to be specific protein which could be detected only in gestational period(Bohn, 1971). However, by the advanced methods such as radioimmunoassey and enzyme immunoassay, the presence of SP1 in various status, including normal adults, children, some diseases, and some malignancies, were confirmed. Thus SP1 is no longer to be spceific protein for pregnancy, as insisted by Wiirt(1981).
In order to confirm the presence of SP1 in neonates, to follow the its changes during early neonatal period and to search its relationship with serum level of total bilirubin, the authors collected blood from 30 normal and 48 interic neonates to estimate SP1 level by EIA method. The followings were ensued.
1) Serum SP1 level during early neonates decreased according to equation: y=161.1-0.708X 2) Half life of serum SP1 level during neonates was 0. 49 days and its level decreased down to normal reference value at 4. 65 days after delivery.
3) No significant correlationship could be confirmed between serum level of SP1 and total bilirubin (r= - 0.13).
